Create properly sized wallpapers from your favorite images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.

When the James Webb Space Telescope was launched, I was inspired by posts on social media of cropped images from the telescope for wallpapers. I decided to create a (admittedly barebones) software to help people create wallpapers from their choice of a JWST image.

Webb Wallpaper allows you to select any image scraped from the ESA Webb gallery and crop it to a custom size for common smartphones or enter your own desktop resolution.

By building Webb Wallpaper, I have learned:

  • Pillow for image cropping
  • Hosting web pages on a home server
  • Using the Flask framework
  • Using Jinja templates
  • Setting up CI/CD with Github Actions
